Vitamin D in various fishes was determined by the method reported previously. Even in equivalent parts from different individuals, vitamin D contents varied remarkably with species and size. It seems that the variation of vitamin D contents depend rather upon ecological environments than upon taxonomical positions.

Six kinds of colour reagent for microdetermination of vitamin E were investigated according to the Emmerie・Engel method. Out of these reagents, both 2,4,6-tripyridyl s-triazine and bathophenanthroline gave satisfactory results, particularly the latter reagent was found the most sensitive to the reaction.

Thiamine propyldisulfide (TPD) equivalent to 400 mg of thiamine hydrochloride was orally administered in the forms of two pills to four healthy young men just after a breakfast for consecutive 4 days. The 3.5 and 3.5〜24 hours urines after taking the pills were collected and determined the contents of thiamine and riboflavin in these urine samples and compared with those values of the urine samples from the subjects at the control period without having the pills. It was observed that average amount of thiamine excreted in urine per person per day were 96.9 mg when TPD were given. The percentage of thiamine excreted to the amounts administered was 24%, and this percentage was similar to that of the control period when only 1.1 mg of thiamine were taken from the test diet. It was also observed that the urinary excretion of riboflavin was not increased when TPD was orally given to the subjects. Apparent absorption percentages of thiamine from 400mg of TPD and 1.1mg of thiamine from the foods were not much different.

One strain of thiazole decomposing bacterium which was isolated by Suzue from soil, was bacteriologically studied. It may be considered from the results it belongs to a species of Pseudomonas.

The authors dealt with the identification of a strain of thiazole decomposing bacteria in the preceding paper and concluded that the organism belongs to a species of Pseudomonas group. The reaction for sulfate ion was positive in the culture of 11 days incubation of the named strain and in 25〜35 days culture showed the lowest optical density at 250 mμ. The optimal pH for the thiazole decomposition was 8.0〜8.3. As for the thiazole decomposiag activity there was no significant difference between the bacterial line passed at 18℃ and 37℃.

Interaction between allicin related compounds such as C_3H_7SSC_3H_7 (I) or [chemical formula] (II) and SH group of denatured egg albumin were investigated. The complexes were precipitated from the reaction mixture by means of ethanol and metaphosphoric acid, and repeatedly extracted with ethanol to remove unreacted I or II. The complexes obtained were not separated into their components by means of further ethanol extraction, but propylmercaptan was liberated by treating with cysteine. In the reaction of I or II with the protein of which SH groups were blocked or oxidized, the complex formatin was not observed. The effects of pH, temperature and time etc. on the complex formation were also investigated. As a result of the experiments, it was confirmed that the complexes were protein-propylmercaptan mixed disulfides which were produced by the following reactions. In the previous report, it was observed that C_3H_7SSC_3H_7 (I) or C_3H_7SSC_3H_7 (II) produced protein-propylmercaptan mixed disulfide (III) by the reaction with SH groups of denatured egg albumin. In this report, the interactions of (III) or S-propylmerapto-L-cysteine (IV) with thiol-type thiamine were investigated and following results were obtained. Thiamine propyldisulfide (TPD) was formed by the reaction of thiol-type thiamine with III or IV, and in the case of IV, thiamine-cysteine mixed disulfide was also formed. The extents of reaction of III or IV with thiamine were lower than that of II or allicin ([chemical formula]), In the case of III or IV, the produecd amounts of TPD were markedly dependent on the initial SH (thiamine) : S-S (III, IV) ratio, and it was confirmed that TPD was produced by the thiol-disulfide interchange reaction, formulated as in equation (1) and (2). The fluorometric determination of pyridine nucleotide in human blood was investigated. After deproteinization with HClO_4,the samples were treated with alcohol dehydrogenase and isocitric dehydrogenase and then methylethylketone procedures were performed. The recoveries of both DPN^+ and TPN^+ were satisfactory. By this method the mean value of total pyridine nucleotide of normal human blood was 65.1 mμmoles/ml in ten cases and DPN^+/TPN^+ ratio was ranging from 1.1 to 1.8. In anemia patients, it was revealed that PN^+ levels were apparently decreased, however, the decrease was not recognized if the PN^+ value was corrected with hematocrit value. The DPN^+/TPN^+ ratio showed no remarkable change as compared with normal cases except one.
