Thiamine dicetylsulfate or thiamine hydrochloride was administered orally to chicks of 400〜500g and the sites of absorption in digestive tracts were determined by means of the chromic oxide index methed. At the middle of small intestine, the absorption coefficient of thiamine hydrochloride was found to be 75 per cent, while that of thiamine dicetylsulfate was 55 per cent, and at the lower end of small intestine, the coefficients were 90 and 85 per cent, respectively. Thiamine contents of free and ester forms in chick organs and pyruvic acid content in blood were determined 1-5 hours after an administration. In blood and liver, increases in the free thiamine contents were observed at first, then the contents of esterified thiamine increased while the free thiamine contents decreased. These changes in thiamine contents occured faster when thiamine hydchloride was given than the case that thiamine dicetylsulfate was given. No change was observed in the muscle thiamine content. When thiamine hydrochloride was administered to chick, the pyruvate content in blood decreased significantly 1 hour after an administration, but when thiamine dicetylsulfate was given, the decrease in blood pyruvate content was observed after 5 hours.

In the previous papers, the author reported the accelerating effect of food colors (xanthene and azo group) for the urinary thiamine excretion when the food colors were given for rats. In the present paper, thiamine level of several organs of mouse were examined, and it was observed that the kidney showed especially low thiamine content and ester ratio. From this results, one of the causes of these findings seems to be due to the accelarated dephosphorylation in kidney by an administration of food colors.

The thiamine level of whole body of mouse was examined by the administration of 15 kinds of food colors and it was found that the bodily thiamine contents was decreased, except with indigo carmine, Orange 1 and Acid violet.

The determination of dibenzoylthiamine (DBT) enriched to food is very difficult because of its low solubility in the various solvents. The authors found that DBT is extremely soluble in 70% alcoholic 0.1 N hydrochloric acid solution. This fact was effectively applied to the practical extraction method of DBT, fortified to several foodstuffs. The extracted DBT in alcoholic hydrochloric acid solution was hydrolyzed with alkali, and then determined fluorometrically by modified thiochrome method with BrCN oxidation.

A growth stimulating effect on the rat observed previously by the addition of mycelium of Aspergillus oryzae to a natural diet was not only detected, but also a growth inhibition occurred when the mycelium was given to the animal mixed with synthetic diets containing purified casein, corn starch or sucrose, oils, salts and vitamins.
