From the standpoint of view to prevent the newborn infants from disorders to be caused by vitamin E deficiency, an effect of oral and intra-muscular supplement with vitamin E was examined on the plasma vitamin E level and hydrogen peroxide hemolysis in the vitamin E deficient infants, who were obtained from the patients with infantile hepatitis, bile duct atresia, feeding difficulties and prematurity. With reagard to the oral administration with 480mg of tocopheryl acetate daily for five days, the difficulty in attempting to raise plasma vitamin E level and to reduce the peroxide hemolysis was indicated. On the other hand, a rapid effect was observed on normalization of the levels in both tests after intramuscularly supplied with 100mg of tocopheryl acetate. Duration of the effect of tocopheryl acetate once supplied intramuscularly in a dose of 100mg was examined. The effect was maintained at least for two weeks in the four of five cases on the basis of the levels in plasma vitamin E and the peroxide hemolysis.

Vitamin B_<12> in serum is bound to specific proteins, transcobalamins (Tc). By different separation techniques it is possible to separate one localized to the α-globulin fraction (Tc I) and the other to the β-globulin fraction (Tc II). The former is related to a larger extent to granulocytes. This report describes one patient with metastatic liver cancer, exhibiting an extraordinary elevation of Tc I in serum and ascites. Identification of Tc I was made by acid treatment, Quso G32 adsorption, Sepahdex G200 gel filtration and DEAE cellulose column chromatography. Although the patient had slightly increased white-cell counts, it was thought that the Tc I elevation was not due to leukocytosis but related to the the existence of metastatic liver cancer. It was likely but not proven that carcinoma cells produced Tc I like substance.

The low concentrations of vitamin B_<12> increased the skin potential by inner surface application of the skin and caused hyperpolarization in nerve and the augmented action potential, while high concentrations of vitamin B_<12> decreased the skin potential and caused depolarization in nerve and the reduced action potential. The outer surface application of low and high concentrations of vitamin B_<12> induced the decrease of skin potential and hyperpolarization in nerve disappeared in NO_3-Ringer. Among these effects of vitamin B_<12>, the increase of skin potential by inner surface application, hyperpolarization in nerve and the decrease of skin potential by outer surface application were abolished by CuSO_4 containing Ringer which depressed chloride permeability. The decrease of skin potential by inner surface application and depolarization in nerve caused by high concentration of vitamin B_<12> disappeared in the K-free Ringer which depressed the Na-K active transport. From these results it was estimated that vitamin B_<12> has two different actions on skin and nerve membrane, one is the enhancement of chloride permeability and the other is the effect on the Na-K active transport.

In the platelet-rich plasma from the thiamine deficient rats, platelet aggregation by ADP was not observed. This aggregation decreased as the thiamine deficiency progressed. By per os or subcutaneous administration of thiamine to the thiamine-deficient rats, the aggregation by ADP was restored. A factor or factors which inhibit platelet aggregation might exist in the plasma. Damaged aggregability of platelets from thiamine deficient rat was not recovered by the addition of thiamine, thiamine diphosphate and thiamine triphosphate in vitro but recovered by the addition of calcium chloride.

Eels fed on the artificial diet for 6 months were divided into the following three groups based on difference of the growth rate ; group 1,2 and 3 were large, middle and small fishes, respectively. Successively they were kept for 81 or 201 days without feeding in 23±1℃ experimental tanks. The changes in body weight, liver weight, contents of some components in liver, other-viscera and carcass caused by non-feeding were studied. The results were summarized as follows ; 1) The loss of body weight was the greatest in group 3 while that in liver was not. 2) Vitamin A in carcass decreased more markedly than that in liver and other-viscera. 3) Vitamin A consumption in fish (day/kg) showed approximately same value (about 270 IU) in all groups. 4) Vitamin E consumption in carcass (day/kg) showed some difference among three groups and these were estimated 360μg in group 1,420μg in group 2 and 430μg in group 3,respectively. 5) Fatty acid compositions of glyceride and phospholipid in other-viscera and carcass of three groups were kept nearly unchanged but those in liver were only slightly changed during non-feeding period.
