    Small lymphocytes are located in blood and immune organs as immunologically competent cell, and differentiate to the performing immunocytes by antigenic stimulation. The performing immunocytes are two in type; the one produces immunoglobulins and engage the humoral immune reactions, which is "plasma cell", and the other engages the cellurar immune reaction by themselves, which is small lymphocyte. As the first step of the differentiation, the small lymphocyte is transformed to large cell or less differentiated cell. Peripheral lymphocytes from sensitized person are transformed to large cells or less differentiated cells in vitro, when they are cultured with sensitizing antigen. This is called "Lymphocytic Blastogenesis by Antigenic Stimulation", and is condidered to be the first step of the differentiation discussed above. This phonomena is observed in various immunological states, not only of the immediate type but also of the delayed type. We have demonstrated this in bronchial of house dust allergen. Leukemoid reaction might be a manifestation of hyperreactive state of the blasogenesis, while Ataxia-teleangiectasis the hyporeactive state of the lymphocytes. As one of immunological investigations this type of cytological and dynamic apporoach is important.

    Continuing the investigations of the antigen-antibody reaction using various antigens and antibodies, the author observed the histological changes in the kidney caused by the active immunization of auto-renal extract. On the experimental method, normal rabbits were immunized intraperitoneally with auto-renal suspension prepared by the unilateral nephrectomy. A total of ten times immune injections was executed once weekly, and one or six weeks after the last injection, these rabbits were sacrificed and the histological changes of the remaining kidney were observed. In nine of twelve rabbits, remarkable changes were observed as follows: 1) anemia, dilatation and hyaline thrombosis in the glomerular loops. 2) swelling, degeneration and necrosis on the capillary walls. 3) swelling, degeneration and proliferation of the glomerular epithelial cells. 4) thickening of the Bowman's capsules. 5) degeneration of tubular epithelium and hyaline casts in the tubules. Similar glomerular changes to these glomerulitis that is characterized by degeneration or proliferative changes of the epithelial cells, are observed on the autopsy causes of various disease too, for example, pyelonephritis or tuberculosis of the kidney, and it is suggested that these glomerular changes are caused by the auto-antigen-antibody reaction to the degenerative tubular epithelial cells.

    Antigenicities of oosponol(4-hydroxymethyl ketone-8-hydroxyisocoumarine) and KI(4-1', 2'-dihydro-xethyhyl-8-hydroxyisocoumarine), which were metabolic products of an air-borne fungi, oospora astringenes, collected in the room of bronchial asthmatic patients, was investigated by means of Schulz-Dale's and Konzett-Lossler's methods in guinea pigs. Physiological saline solutions, these solutions added with Freund's complete adjuvant and guinea pig's serum dilutions of 7 mg/ml of KI or oosponol containing the adequate volume of the adjuvant were used for the sensitizing antigens. Sensitization by injections of all of the solutions of KI were found unsuccessfull and the guinea pigs could not be sensitized by injection of physiological saline solution of oosponol even with the adjuvant. The animals sensitized with blend of oosponol, guinea pig's serum and the adjuvant were well responsive for challenge by guinea pig's serum dilution with oosponol. The response was found very remarkable, when the blended serum was used for sensitization after incubation at 38℃ during 48 hrs. The desensitization was evidenced in constrictive reaction in the isolated smooth muscle preparations, but the challenge by oosponol alone was impossible. Results of Schulz-Dale's reaction in small intestines from the guinea pigs sensitized with oosponol-serum protein fractions and electrophotometrical analysis on the blended serum showed that antigen-like principle presented in oosponol-albumin fraction. These facts above mentioned suggested that oosponol interacted with serum albumin and that some new substances possessing antigenic activity were formed. The air-borne fungi and their metabolic products being in house dust could be suspected to play an important role in ethiology of asthmatic attack.

    1) Cephalothin was assumed to be bound covalently to lysineε-NH_2 group of protein by opening itsβ-lactam ring in a weakly alkaline solution as penicillin G and synthetic penicillins were. 2) The specific precipitating antibody against cephalothin-protein conjugate was obtained by immunizing rabbits with this antigen. 3) A strong cross reactivity was observed between rabbit anti-benzyl-penicilloyl antibody and cephalothin, and also, penicillin G had a strong cross reactivity with rabbit anti-cephalothin-protein conjugate. 4) By PCA, quantitative precipitin reaction and its hapten inhibition test, the cross reaction and its hapten inhibition test, the cross reaction of cephalothin with penicillin G was mediated mainly by their side chain portions of the molecules. 5) This cross reactivity would be correlated to the chemical resemblance of the two compounds which is attributed to their aromatic characteristics.

    Vaccine, substance containing the destructed protoplasma of bacilli(S.D.P.) and substance containing both the destructed protoplasma and dissolved cell wall of bacilli(S.D.P.W.) were made from the bacilli, which were isolated culturing the sputa of the patients with bronchial asthma of the infectious type or the allergic infectious type. The allergenicity of these bacterial substances were studied in asthmatics giving the results as follows: 1) The mean amount of protein in the S.D.P. as well as the S.D.P.W. was respectively 2.6 and 2.3 times as much as the amount of protein in the vaccine. However, as to the amount of glucose, there were only little differences among these three bacterial substances. 2) Taking statistically the results of skin test into regard, in immediate reaction, occurrence of erythema more than 14mm in diameter and in delayed reaction, the same more than 10 mm was respectively judged to be positive. Judging of the results thus made the incidence of positive skin test was noted to be obviously higher in the asthmatics than in the healthy individuals. 3) In the asthmatics skin test with heterovaccine in the great majority gave positive results in more than two species of bacilli, however skin test with autovaccine mostly gave positive results in only one species of bacilli. From these facts autovaccine was considered to be significant as a single antigen. 4) Comparing the results of skin test with these three bacterial substances, while autovccaine showed a delayed type of reaction, both auto- S.D.P. and auto- S.D.P.W. revealed an immediate type of reaction. 5) The inhalation test with three bacterial substances were performed in twenty-two asthmatics. While there was no noticeable positive reaction with the autovaccine, there were eight positive cases with the auto- S.D.P. and five with the auto- S.D.P.W. 6) Among the eight asthmatics, who showed positive inhalation test with the auto- S.D.P., six demonstrated positively the immediate type reaction and two showed positively the delayed type of the reaction in the skin test. With the Prausnitz-Kustner reaction, seven of the cases revealed positive results. 7) Nine asthmatics, who showed positive skin test with the auto-S.D.P., were given a hyposensitization treatment with the corresponding S.D.P. for one to two years. In four of these patients the hyposensitization treatment was noted to give favorable effect.
