The stability of FAD in mycelia of Eremothecium ashbyii was found to be as follows. (1) When mycelia containing FAD were incubated at 37℃ for an hour in the phosphate buffer of pH 5.3 and 7.4,their FAD content changed from 1.36mg per g to 1.26 and 1.27mg per g respectively. (2) When wet mycelia containing FAD were dehydrated with six volumes of dry acetone, the FAD content was decreased from 6.29 to 4.17mg per g. After this sample had been stored in a desiccator at room temperature for six months, little change in the FAD content was observed. (3) When mycelia containing FAD were made vermiform and dried at 75-78℃ for four hours, or when they were dried up on a hot porous the for 1-2 minutes, the FAD content was decreased from 6.26mg per g to 4.45 and 4.51mg per g respectively. These samples were stored similarly for six months and similar results were obtained.

The effect of cycloserine, isonicotinic acid hydrazid, pyridoxal, 2-methyl-4-amino-5-hydroxymethylpyrimidine, and desoxypyridoxine on the heme biosynthesis in rat hone marrow was studied by using radioisotope Fe^<55>. 1) The incorporation of Fe^<55> into heme in vitamin B_6 deficient rats increased proportionally to increase in the amount of vitamin B_6 administered with the diet. The incorporation increased also in vitro by the addition of pyridoxal to the reaction system of vitamin B_6 deficient group. 2) Cycloserine, isonicotinic acid hydrazid, and desoxypyridoxine inhibited the incorporation of Fe^<55> into heme in vitro. The inhibitions could not be restored by pyridoxal. 3) The incorporation of Fe^<55> into heme was smaller in the rat administered with cycloserine, compaired with the control and it could not be restored by pyridoxal. 4) 2-Methyl-4-amino-5-hydroxymethylpyrimidine increased the incorporation of Fe^<55> in vitro.

Thiaminehydrochloride, thiaminedicetylsulfate, dibenzoylthiamine and thiaminemonorhodanate were added to various kinds of wheat flour and stored at room temperature for 30 days in summer, and then their stabilities were compared. The stabilities were found to be independent of the kind of flour. The stability was found to vary according to the kinds of derivatives.

Abderhalden observed that the toxicity of 2-methyl-4-amino-5-hydroxymethylpyrimidine (OMP) was greater in the mice fed DK diet than in those reared on the ordinary diet. The author examined the toxicity of OMP in pyridoxine deficient mice. When fed on synthetic pyridoxine-deficient diet for 5 days, the dose of OMP causing the death of 50 per cent animals fell to about 1/3.5 of that in normal animals, and the dose was smaller than that in the case with Dk diet. The time required for appearance of fatal convulsion by OMP was shorter in pyridoxine-dificient animals than in those with the ordinary or DK diet.

The determination of riboflavin content of various animals by lumiflavin method has shown that there exist fluorescent substances which have a great influence on measure of riboflavin value. These fluorescent substances consist, chiefly, of substances having Rf 0.55 and 0.82. These fluorescent substances can be completely eliminated by the chloroform extraction and oxidation by potassium permanganate.

The examination of the fluorescent substances in the blood by rabbit blood has made clear the fluorescent substances found in it. Five kinds of fluorescent substances are found in the blood besides riboflavin. The investigation has been pursued with the application of spot colour reaction derived from paper partition chromatography, spector examination, contrivance of development solvent and bioassay. The result has shown that folic acid derivative in violet fluorescent substance, 3-hydroxykynurenine in yellow-green fluorescent substance, kynurenine in blue fluorescent substance and protoporphyrin in red-brown fluorescent substance have been identified. In yellow-brown fluorescent substance, a substance which seems to have a relation with protoporphyrin has been presumed.

An attempt was made to purify the thiaminase II from the culture broth of Bacillus aneurinolyticus Kimura et Aoyama. A crude enzyme preparation was obtained by an osmotic concentration method as a precipitate at 25-60% saturation of ammonium sulfate. The crude enzyme preparation was dissolved in phosphate buffer (pH 7.4) and fractionated with several ion exchange resins. The enzymic activity of a protein solution which passed throuth the cation exchanger, such as Amberlite IR-120 or IRC-50 was decreased, while that of a solution which passed through the anion exchanger, such as Amberlite IRA-400 or IR-4B was considerably increased. Form the above results and the examination of the absorption spectrum of protein solutions, it was supposed that the crude enzyme preparation contained an enzyme-protein, metallic ions and an acidic substance having an absorption maximum at 250 mμ.
