Riboflavin has an important relation to liver tumors in rats fed on amino-azo dyes. Eight kinds of water soluble azo-dyes were selected out of the edible pigments on the market. After they were administrated in large amount to rats, the conversion of the amount of riboflavin in several organs were observed. It was found that the amount of riboflavin in the liver and brain showed a remarkable decrease and that in the muscle and spleen only a slight decrease, while hardly any change was recognized in the kidney and heart.

Any effective antioxidant for vitamin A prevents its oxidation even at the lowest level of the antioxidant to fats and oils containing vitamin A. 10,000 I.U. of vitamin A in each 1g of fish-liver oil (peroxide number about 180) is kept at the room temperature with addition of an antioxidant at 0.1-0.005% to the oil. The blank samples without antioxidant are also kept at the same condition with and without replacement of the air with carbon dioxide. After 2 or 3 days the blank with carbon dioxide shows only 2-4% loss of vitamin A, the blank without carbon dioxide gives nearly 50% destruction of vitamin A and the samples with antioxidant are led to medium destruction between the two blanks. Index of the antioxidant at the given dilution is shown as : Vitamin A of sample with antioxidant-vitamin A of blank. Vitamin A of blank with CO_2 -vitamin A of blank.

Exposure of vitamin A acetate in ethyl acetate solution with irradiated methyl linoleate to air quickly destroyed vitamin A. The absorption maximum at 325mμ disappeared and a new maximum at 280 mμ was shown. The unsaponifiable fraction from the reaction mixture is also characterized by the same absorption maximum and separated into several zones on alumina chromatography. The eluate from the top zone shows 280 mμ absorption and the oily substance is turned into 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazone of mp 146-147℃. Epoxy-β- cyclocitral is the most probable oxidation product assumed from its analytical data.

Granulars and multi-vitamin tablets of thiamine and ascorbic acid were prepared using thiamine hydrochloride, thiamine mononitrate and thiamine dicetylsulfate. Granulars were stored at 37℃, 85% relative humidity for about 30 days and tablets were stored at room temperature for about six months, and their stabilities were compared. The stabilities of both thiamine and ascorbic acid were found to be independent of the kinds of thiamine salts, but the preparations used thiamine dicetylsulfate showed the highest stability for both thiamine and ascorbic acid.

It was found that thiochrome was produced by the addition of phosphomolybdic acid followed by NaOH to thiamine solution. The finding led to the investigation on the optimum condition for this reaction. Maximum quantity of thiochrome was obtained by the reaction of 5 ml of thiamine solution with 10 mg of phosphomolybdic acid at pH 8 at 60℃ for 5 minutes. The yield of thiochrome compares with that with any of potassium ferricyanide or cyanogen bromide.

It was found that thiamine was phosphorylated with cell free extract of Escherichia coli. The recovery of total thiamine added was slightly decreased but the existence of thiaminase could not be confirmed in it. On the other hand, thiaminase activity was found in the precipitate fraction with 0.6 saturation of ammonium sulfate of cell free extract of Staphylococcus.
