    The author. analysed several specimens of Lithopone' home and foreign made, on the market ; and compared their properties for paint, by measuring their oil absorption, hiding power and tinting strength, with other white pigments such as Zinc Oxide, White Lead, etc.
    Almost all the water extracts of Lithopone were weakly acidic, but, as exception, one of the home made and a foreign product were somewhat basic.
    It may be said that, if the amount of ZnS in the Lithopone be lesser, their hiding power and tinting strength may be smaller, but those properties and the oil absorption can not be judged from the content of ZnS.
    Some of the Lithopone had shown higher oil absorption than Zinc Oxide, and smaller value than White Lead, but the most of them had the intermediate value between the two pigments above mentioned.
    The hiding power of the Lithopone was greater than Zinc Oxide and White Lead; and the Lithopone, having smaller hiding power than White Lead, was very few.
    Most of the Lithopone had less tinting strength than White Lead, and a few of them had the value lying between Zinc Oxide and White Lead; while the imported was only the one being superior to Zinc Oxide.
    Almost all the domestic Lithopone had shown less tendency to settle in the paint or were more difficult to separate themselves from the vehicle than the imported one.
    The quantity of the coarse particles on the standard sieve of No. 325 were between 1.1% and 0.2%; and they had no relation to the sedimentation velocity.
    As to the darkening of the Lithopone by the sunlight, and the yellowing of the Lithopone paint, all the home made products were inferior to the imported one.
