Evaluation of the effect of S35, afrinitive to the bone and cartilage, on the development of bone in chick embryo were studied. Method: One tenth cc aqueous solution of S35 containing 6 different concentrations ranging from 300, μc to 12.5 μc was injected into the yolk of the fertilized eggs of white Leghorn before the incubation, at the second, fourth and sixth day of the incubation, including the third day of incubation when the limb bud developed. All incubated eggs were opened when they were dead or at the 19 th incubation day, and they were examined. Results: 1) Acute death occurred in many of the young embryos, and late death occurred most frequently at the fourth incubation day, decreasing their frequency at the second, sixth incubation day and pre-incubation in order. 2) S35 showed strong activity to develop malformation in a wide sense. 3) More prominent growth-inhibiting activity, such as a decrease in body weight and shortening of the femoral long axis, and the histological findings of the bone was seen as the dosis of irradiation increased. They were the most prominent in the 4 day incubation group of the eggs of the fourth incubation day, decreasing their frequency in the eggs of the second, sixth incubation day and pre-incubation in order. 4) Degeneration of the chondrocytes was the most prominent histological change, and, in addition, degeneration of the obsteocytes and a decrease in the number of the osteoblasts are recognized constantly. Cartilageremnant and fibrosis of the island-like obteotrabeculae were recognized in the bone tissues characteristically.
Roentogen-pelvimetry was perfomed on the lateral view (Guthmann's method) and the inlet view (Martiu's method) in 2502 pregnant women, and the studies on the relationship between the morphology of the pelvis and the process of the delivery was done upon observing morphology of the secrum and the inlet of the pelvis. 1. The sacra were classified into five groups and fourten types. The frequency of arc type was 67.9 per cent, flat type, 18.7 navicular type, 5.4 the second promontorium (double promontorium) type, 4.4 and intermediate type, 3.6 The frequency of long pelvis was 17.5 per cent, tubular pelvis, 4.4 and funnel pelvis, 6.3. 2. The morphological classification of the inlet was performed according to that of Caldwell. The frequency of pure gynecoid type was 75.3 per cent, pure android type, 0.7, pure anthropoid type, 3.1 and pure platypeloid type, 4.0. 3. The caesarean section were more frequenty performed when the sacra were navicular or flat type or when the inlet of the pelvis was platypeloid. The vacuum extraction deliveries were frequently performed in case of funnel pelvis. 4. The limiting value for the caesarean section of the conjugate vera was 10.0 cm, that of inlet angle of the pelvis over 150°, that of the opening angle of the pelvis less than 69° and that of transverse diameter of the inlet less than 11.0 cm. 5. The limiting values for the caesarean section were larger in pelvic presentation than in cephalic presentation. 6. The pelvic-fetal weight index was calculated from the size of the pelvis and the weight of the fetus. The pelvic-fundus uteri index was calculated from the size of pelvis and the hight of the fundus uteri. Comparison of the process of the delivery with these values was studied. 7. The abnormal morphology of pelvic diameter were noted in each case of the abnormal presentation and rotation.
In order to investigate the curative effect of iron sulfate made of inert resin (as fero-gradumet) on iron deficiency anemia, 105-315 mg of iron sulfate (1-3 tablets) were daily given to 14 cases with the disease. Remarkable improvement of erythrocyte count, hemoglobin concentration and serum iron level were seen by the oral administration of this preparation. There were no difference in therapeutic effect between the group treated with 105 mg and 315 mg of dosis. One hundred and five mg dose (one tablet) is considered to be satisfactory unless the grade of anemia is severe. None of 14 cases showed side effects with this preparation after the long term administration.
Clinical symptomes and courses of three cases of Wallenberg syndrome were reported Some considerations were done regarding their nervous manifestations with the foci in the brain. Case 1. 58 years old, male. Chief complaints were the impossibility of swallowing and the difficulty in speech. Dissociated sensory disturbances were seen in the right side of the face and the body surface. This case seems to be the second type according to the Hayakawa's classification. Case 2. 61 years old, male. Chief complaint was ataxic gait. Sensory disturbance was observed in the left side of the face and the right half of the body surface. This case was most typical and belongs to the first type of the Hayakawa's classification. Case 3. 43 years old, male. Chief complaint was difficulty in speech. Thermohypesthesia and hypoalgesia were seen in the right side of face, body and limbs. This case belongs to the second type of the Hayakawa's classification. Paralysis of facial nerve observed in this case indicates the spread of lesions into lower portion of pons.
