  • 視覚刺激につての実験

    Regarding the taxis of fishes toward drifting seaweeds, the localization of fishes by visual stimulation was studied by experiments with a rotating aquarium. (Fig. 1).
    The results of the experiments (Table 1) are rather complex. A visual stimulation always caused some reaction in the fishes. The degree of the reaction, however, varied from a swimming movement in the same direction with a moving object, to a mere increase in activity according to the species of fish.
    It is suggested that localization by visual stimulation may in some cases play an important part in the taxis of fishes toward drifting seaweeds. Juvenile fishes may try to keep relative positions with drifting seaweeds within a certain range after they meet. it.
    Those fishes living in closer spatial relation with drifting seaweeds have less sensibility for a visual stimulation. For these fishes, localization by a tactual stimulation may play an important role.
    A visual stimulation must be one of the factors but not the only factor which attracts juvenile fishes to flotsam. Further studies are needed.

    In the middle of November, 1964, a total of 13, 094 tagged sea bream, Chrysophrys major TEMMINCK et SCHLEGEL, were released at the 352nd 160th, and 371st official blocks in the Yellow Sea to determine their movement and distribution (Figs. 1, 2 and Table 1). Sixteen hundred and three recoveries were made through March, 1965. Analysing the recovery data, the results obtained are summarizing as follows:
    1) The fishing intensity was thought to be very high during the period between November and December in this area, from the fact that 86% of the recoveries were obtained during the first 30 days just after the liberation (Table 2).
    2) They moved in all directions within 30 days after liberation, but thereafter, most of them traveled east or southeast toward their wintering area (Figs. 3, 4).
    3) The speed of the movement tended to increase and the maximum was seen at about 20 days after the liberation, thereafter, a decrease in their moving speed was noted (Fig. 5).

    Changes in the amount of nucleotides and their related compounds, volatile bases, and trimethylamine in the muscle of plaice, Palalichtys olivaceous, and skipjack, Katsuwonus pelamis, during ice storage were studied with particular reference to the freshness of fish muscle. The specimens of fishes were killed with as little struggling as possible by piercing the spinal cords, and they were stored at 0-0.5°C. The sample muscles were taken at intervals throughout the storage period, and the extractives to be tested were prepared with perchloric acid and trichloroacetic acid. Nucleotides and their related compounds were determined by chromatography on columns of Dowex 1×8. The results obtained are shown in Figs. 1-4, and Table 1, and the main features are as follows:
    (1) The freshness of the sample fishes was organoleptically lowered in spite of little changes in the both amounts of volatile bases and trimethylamine were noted, and consequently it is considered that the degradation of freshness of fish is effected by the autolysis rather than by the bacterial action.
    (2) Although changes in the amount of nucleotides and their related compounds are considered to be important indices of autolysis of fish muscle, the rates of nucleotide degradation were remarkably varied between two samples of plaice (Fig. 4) in spite of little differences of freshness were observed; the freshness of the fish, so far as these two samples of plaice are concerned, could not be estimated by the indices. That the rates of nucleotide degradation were markedly varied according to individuals is considered to be originated in the difference of the physiological states of the fish before they were killed.
    (3) K value which had been proposed for an objective index for freshness of fish by SAITO et al2) seems to correspond to the results made by the organoleptic observation. Even for the skipjack in which little Hx was accumulated, the K value was useful as an objective index (Table 1).

    The shelf-life of “sakura-dembu”, seasoned cod meals, is not long because of discoloration or browning.
    The phenomena were considered to be caused partly by rays.
    The authors prepared cod meals, each of which was colored with one ingredient of coloring substance and adjusted each of the water contents ranging from 5 to 30%.
    Each of all the materials was divided into three groups and packed with three film materials having different permeability against rays and oxygen. All samples were irradiated with ultraviolet ray and then the differences of color were measured.
    The results are as follows:
    (1) The least discoloration was measured with the “sakura-dembu” samples packed with the film having the lowest permeability against ultraviolet ray.
    (2) The strongest discoloration was found with the samples colored with Red 103 or Red 104. The discolortion of “sakura-dembu” products may be caused chiefly by that of these coloring substances.
    (3) The higher the water content of the sample was, the stronger the discoloration by irradiation with ultraviolet ray was. However, the curves of the increase of discoloration versus water content were not exponential; but distinct increases were noticed with the samples with water contents between 10 and 20%.

    By means of paper chromatography, the distribution of gongrine, gigartinine and arginine in the extractives of marine algae was investigated. In twenty-five species of marine algae examined, gongrine and gigartinine were found in four species and seven species of red algae, respectively. These guanylurea derivatives were not detected in green and brown algae except one species of brown alga which gave a doubtful spot of gigartinine.

    1. The mullet and stockfish roes were shown to contain oil rich in wax.
    2. The acetone-soluble oil was fractionated into hydrocarbon, wax, glyceride and polar substance fractions by column and thin-layer chromatography, and alcohol and fatty acid constituents of wax and glyceride fractions analyzed by gas-liquid chromatography.
    3. The main constituents present in the mullet roe oil were cetyl alcohol, hexadecenol and hexadecenoic and oleic acids in wax and palmitic, hexadecenoic and oleic acids in glyceride. In the stockfish roe they were cetyl and stearyl alcohols and oleic acid in wax and oleic and palmitic acids in glyceride, respectively.
    4. Both alcohols and fatty acids with odd-numbered carbon atoms were found to be richer in these roe oils than in marine oils so far analyzed.
