We investigated the regional timber distribution network that supports the activities of today’s local builders and carpenters from the following three aspects to understand the actual situation.

1. Trace the historical changes of regional timber and understand the characteristics of architectural production.

2. Conduct interviews with local builders and carpenters to investigate the situation of regional indigenous wooden construction.

3. Conduct interviews with forestry-related people and government officials who have connections through locally produced “Tenryu- Zai” to understand and consider relationships.

An exploratory study was conducted by analyzing the actual living conditions on the demand side and real estate property datasets on the supply side to elucidate the appropriate floor plans and rents that young working households would occupy. The appropriate rent for the units before the renovation was 69905 yen, which was lower than the rental price of 71000 yen, according to the hedonic price model. After implementing the floor plan modification, whose expected rents were 72741 yen for 1DK and 80917 yen for 1LDK, we received applications for all three units, suggesting the effectiveness of this method.

We revealed the actual situation of companies located in vacant public facilities in rural areas, focusing on Minamiboso City. While companies cited the initial investment and the burden of rental fees, about 90% of the targeted facilities have continued operations since the start of occupancy. Managers and employees enjoy leisure activities that take advantage of Minamiboso’s natural environment and scenery. On the other hand, lack of livelihood services is an issue for immigrants and foreign trainees, and it is necessary to have a place to exchange information on living arrangements with local employers and accessibility to the core area.

This study conducted an analysis of the Architectural Briefs, spatial configurations, and their relevance for Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres. It initially clarified the content and development of the requirements from the founder’s manifesto in 1995, focusing on the 2009 and 2015 briefs. Then, we applied these requirements to floor plans of 25 built centres. Using Space Syntax theory, it depicted how spaces, centered around the kitchen, were perceived, and by applying Westin's Privacy Theory, it represented the privacy emphasized in each centre. Finally, the research revealed how actual architectural configurations corresponded to changes in the architectural briefs.

The purpose of this study is to clarify whether and how the floor plan of rental office buildings in Japan are adapted to the shape of the sites where they are built. Four height categories are established for comparison. Firstly, whether the floor plan shapes are geometrically adapted to the site shapes is analyzed. Next, specific methods to adapt the floor plan shapes to the site shapes and elements that are adapted are analyzed. Finally, how the floor plan configurations are adapted to the shape of the sites is analyzed.

The purpose of this study is to determine the limits of a visually impaired person’s ability to use a white cane to detect floor changes when walking on a less uneven floor.

Research methods included analysis of vibration spectrum of different flooring materials using an experimental white cane, as well as sensory evaluation of flooring material identification by subjects.

The results confirmed that the detection of differences in flooring materials by a white cane is based on the vibration spectrum transmitted from the white cane to the person and recognized by the person.

This study aims to analyze users’ attitudes towards public toilet spaces and facilities through a questionnaire survey of a wide range of users, which is necessary for planning of inclusive toilets. This paper examines points to be considered when planning ‘shared space’ in public toilets based on a survey of the current situation through an understanding of the use of existing public toilets. In addition, the preference and avoidance psychology towards shared space designs such as the movement line and hand washing facilities was analyzed through questions using cards with multiple examples of spatial configuration patterns of inclusive toilets.

This paper examines the trend of underground extensions of existing buildings in Japan using case studies from Shinkenchiku magazine (1983-2019). It proposes a conceptual framework for integrating new underground spaces with both old and modern structures, emphasizing engineering advances and disaster prevention. The findings reveal a shift towards less conservative designs that enhance visual presence and urban connectivity. The framework categorizes diverse approaches for analyzing spatial continuity and visual impact, identifying hybrid strategies for complex sites. This research offers a flexible guide for architects, planners, and policymakers, highlighting the significance of underground extensions in contemporary design.

To ensure business continuity after an earthquake, it is important to maintain the functionality of the main facility. Therefore, in addition to reinforcing the seismic resistance of the base building, it is necessary to have a backup building in place. The base building should consider the feasibility of selecting the backup building. To assess feasibility, it is necessary to quantitatively capture the relationship between two indicators: “possibility of simultaneous damage” and “ease of transfer.” This study proposes a method for quantifying these two indicators and examines the site selection method for the base building.

The purpose of this research is to examine the mechanism of “POPO”, an example of VPS, from both the software and hardware aspects, and to clarify the factors behind its establishment. It has become clear that in order to establish a VPS, three points are important: “integration of non-parties and parties,” “integration of own capital and third-party capital,” and “appropriate use of building stock.”

This paper analyzes cases of the establishment of Regional Management Organizations (RMOs) in two rural districts in Hokkaido, and extracts the main points of the relationship between residents and the government during the establishment phase.

- In Hokkaido, RMOs add public space management to their tasks in order to generate revenue.

- The local government takes on a coordinating function, such as calling on related organizations.

- The role of consensus building will be shifted from the local government to the residents based on the residents’ awareness building.

- Experts will participate in terms of objectivity and technical capabilities.

Akiyoshidai is the largest karst plateau in Japan. This study analyzed the characteristics of residential space and agricultural environment on Akiyoshi-dai plateau based on case study. We conducted field and historical survey to reveal the correspondence relation to the topographical conditions. As a result, altitudes measurements, amount of inclination, irrigation system and ground water system peculiar to Akiyoshi-dai plateau had impacted the formation process of the residential and farming area.

It is not clear what “basic resources” cause feelings of instability and insecurity when access is limited and dropping in is difficult. This study aims to spatially explain what “basic resources” are by analyzing the perception of stopover behavior of people who do not feel isolated or lonely. A web-based survey was administered to 9,959 people nationwide. The results showed marginal probability effects around the mean for each variable using a multinomial logit regression model. These may be regarded as “basic drop-in resources” that are particularly useful in the primary prevention of isolation and loneliness.

In this study, the subjects were randomly assigned to three groups, and different sentence patterns were presented at the beginning of each web-based questionnaire in order to compare the effects on the responses. The results showed that the presentation of norms regarding participation in initiatives had a negative anchor effect when people were in a state of isolation or loneliness, such as in secondary and tertiary prevention. The authors proposed that the informational prescriptions that contribute to the primary prevention of isolation and loneliness should indirectly intervene in indicators such as help-orientation, psychological safety and intention to continue living.

This study aimed to identify changes and current conditions by classifying each new town based on changes in the age composition of its residents, to isolate issues related to detached housing area renovation. The classification process divided new towns into four types, each with its own characteristics, and assumed the types to be in transition. Areas with frequently divided lots, vacant lots, and increasingly vacant houses were associated with stagnant renovation.

This study aimed to accumulate knowledge on balancing the conservation of historical landscapes with urban development in five cities with open ports. The analysis clarified the following three points. First, the five cities shared a common emphasis on historical landscapes through landscape planning and private organizations’ active involvement. Second, cases of development activities related to historical buildings were identified in the five cities, with eight cases in Yokohama and four in Kobe. Third, all twelve cases were designated as historic buildings at separate times.

This study clarified the actual situation of initiatives and issues toward the realization of a hydrogen society based on a questionnaire survey of municipal urban planning departments. As a result, the number of municipal urban planning departments with specific initiatives was limited to 11. On the other hand, it became clear that many municipalities are looking for personnel who can coordinate the establishment of a system of collaboration among private companies, municipalities, and expert researchers. Based on these results, this study proposed that the Japanese government establish a mechanism to introduce specialists who can provide support to municipal staffs.

The purpose of this study is to assess the attitudes of individual unit owners (residents) in a condominium regarding their evaluation of the condominium management company’s maintenance services. The results are as follows. First, the building was generally well-maintained, which reduced buyers’ perceived risk and extended the acceptable life of the unit for purchase. Second, residents’ evaluations of the management company’s maintenance services have evolved, particularly in relation to the building’s 25-year history. Finally, residents’ assessments of these services were strongly influenced by the trust established among them, with particular emphasis on assurance.

This study analyzes the standardization efforts of specification classification systems in Japan’s construction industry, focusing on historical cases such as the “Universal Building Construction Index” and the “Building Code Index.” It further examines the future directions for information-sharing systems within the industry.

Inspired by ISO and Western classification systems, these initiatives aimed to organize and share information. However, limited technology and industry consensus hindered their adoption, with the focus on facet-based formats possibly contributing to this.

Technological advances allow data exchange without standard codes, enabling more flexible sharing. The study suggests limited standardization and machine-readable data as practical strategies.

This study clarifies the process of creating shop drawings in the Ramen Precast Concrete (RPC) method, focusing on information sharing and role distribution among designers, contractors, and PCa factories. Based on a questionnaire survey and interviews, cooperation between general contractors and PCa factories was analyzed. By patterning the drawing process, the study examined how information is exchanged. Deficiencies in design documents and delays in approval drawings negatively affect production, and BIM/ICT technologies are not widely used. Establishing a more efficient information exchange system and streamlining the shop drawing process are essential.

This paper examines what kind of space and design composition the Fukuoka Domain Machichaya had, using floor plan drawings. First, this paper compared the drawings with the “Ochayakakitome” and criticizes the historical materials. Next, this paper compared and examined the spatial composition and design composition of the Uchino and Hakozaki Machichaya based on the drawings, and compared them to understand their architectural characteristics. This paper compared the spatial and design composition of Fukuoka Domain Ochaya, and further compare it with Honjin to clarify the architectural characteristics of Machichaya.

This study investigates the “Chigi Theory,” which posits that chigi are cut outward for male deities and inward for female deities. Analyzing 285 shrine buildings, 76.50% conformed to the theory, though the predominance of male shrines with outward cuts might affect the results. Shrines enshrining both male and female deities rarely showed mixed cutting styles. At Ise-related shrines, inward cuts for female deities were more common, suggesting Ise’s influence on the theory. Future research should focus on determining when chigi cuts were modified and expand the analysis to include more shrine structures.

From the beginning of 20^th century, BFBS has established a broad network of translating and sailing Christ Bible with Shanghai Bible House as a head quarter in East Asia. Studies on Bible linguistics and Christ theology have been developed, however, BFBS’s architectural history has not yet been paid attention until its archives were discovered by the author in 2012.

To that extent, this paper tries to clarify the planning process and architectural design of Kobe depot in 1906-1910, aiming to provide a basic knowledge on the architectural compositions and spatial characteristic of BFBS depot in Modern East Asia.

The following three aspects of the stone industry in the Izu Peninsula were analyzed.

1. By collecting survey data on stone produced in the Izu Peninsula, we clarified the transition of surveys targeting the stone industry during the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa eras.

2. By categorizing these surveys, we clarified that they started as geological surveys, changed to architectural surveys, and then evolved into a survey targeting the entire country.

3. By using these survey data, we pointed out the possibility of clarifying the total production area of stone, the market share of stone, and the transportation methods for stone.

This paper examines the usage of the term “environment” in Frederick Kiesler’s discourses from the 1920s to the 1930s, during the early stages of his career. By doing so, it sheds light on the theoretical development and background leading up to his seminal 1939 essay “On Correalism and Biotechnique.” This study categorizes Kiesler’s usage of the term “environment” into three stages: (1) its use in theatrical discourses during the 1920s, (2) its expansion into architectural discourses in the early 1930s, and (3) the establishment and complication of the concept in the late 1930s, thereby revealing its consistency and variations.

This study clarifies the process by which architectural engineers were assigned to local governments in Taiwan under Japanese rule. Following the revision of the provincial system in 1920, engineer Yoshio Shirakura, who was posted to Taichung Province in 1922, became a pioneering example of a building engineer posted to a provincial area and designed many public buildings.

In the 1930s, architectural engineers were assigned to Taichung City, and schools and public buildings were built, but construction funds were insufficient, and construction costs were covered by bonds and other means.

Provincial and municipal architectural engineers became designers of local-based activities.

The purpose of this paper is to clarify the extent and depth to which beauty related to national and local lands was perceived in architect Yoshiro Taniguchi’s descriptions of “National Beauty” and “Local Beauty” in the historical background before and after the chaotic end of the war. Taniguchi’s important perspective on the beauty of the land and hometown is that the situation of beauty and ugliness, which appeared on the outside as the object of landscape, was taken as a major matter of mental expression of the inner world of the human being projected onto it.

This study clarifies the relationship between subjective person, place, and spatial expression by examining the production and sales location, and the composition of sales space at “Pottery Market” in Mashiko Town. As a result, several patterns about localization degrees and the composition of sales space are found. Furthermore, by comparing these results, several characteristics are identified as the overall picture of the relationship between ceramic activities and the regional environment. These are the way of being, such as continuity of daily activities, selective division of locations, purposeful movement and sales, and compatibility of ceramic culture cooperation and individual spatial expression.

This report sheds light on the establishment of town houses and steamboat companies on Simo-Ōkawamae-Dōri in the port city of Niigata during the Meiji period. The town houses along Simo-Ōkawamae-Dōri in Niigata Town varied from town to town, with inns concentrated in Ni-no-chō, where Ansinsya (shipping companies) was located, and San-no-chō, Yon-no-chō, which was adjacent to Ni-no-chō. In addition, transportation companies and shipping companies were located. Ansinsya transported passengers and loads between Niigata and Nagaoka by steamboats. The capital was 20,000 yen, each share was 100 yen, and the largest amount of investment was made by Nagaoka residents.

This research analyzes the process of the formation of a residential district composed of villas in the area around the Viale dei Colli in Florence in the mid-19th century. In this paper, by focusing on the size and shape of the site, the layout of the villas on the site, the distance from the road, the distance from neighboring houses, and the relationship between the gate and the villa, we analyze the detailed architectural layout trends of the entire district and clarify the differences between the plan and the actual situation.
