In order to consider the foods contamination with artificial nuclides, 239, 240Pu, released from the Chernobyl accident, radioactivities of plutonium in imported European foods which exceed the interim intervention level for screening (134Cs+137Cs; 370Bq/kg) in Japan were determined by alpha-ray spectrometry. Among three spices, one laurel leaf, one savory leaf and one thyme, in 13 food samples, 239, 240Pu were found to be in the range of 52 to 85 mBq/ kg. The results shows that239, 240Pu/137Cs and239, 240Pu/90Sr radioactivity ratios in those spices are respectively the levels of 10-4-10-5and10-3which are almost equal to the radioactivity ratios in the releases from the Chernobyl reactor. Effective dose equivalent received by the general public was calculated to be 8.9×10-4mSv. This value is less than 0.1% of the annual effective dose equivalent received from natural sources, 2.4×10-3Sv.
A computer-assisted real time recording system was developed for management of radioisotopes. The system composed of two personal computers forming LAN, identification-card (ID-card) reader, and electricity-operating doorlock. One computer is operated by radiation safety staffs and stores the records of radioisotopes. The users of radioisotopes are registered in this computer. Another computer is installed in front of the storage room for radioisotopes. This computer is ready for operation by a registered ID-card and is input data by the user. After the completion of data input, the door to the storage room is unlocked. The present system enables us the following merits: (1) Radiation safety staffs can easily keep up with the present states of radioisotopes in the storage room and save much labor. (2) Radioactivity is always corrected. (3) The upper limit of radioactivities in use per day is automatically checked and users are regulated when they input the amounts to be used. (4) Users can obtain storage records of radioisotopes any time. In addition, the system is applicable to facilities which have more than two storage rooms.
We have carried out basic investigations “Renin IRMA Pasteur kit” along with investigations of active renin concentrations in liver diseases. The result of the basic investigations of this kit have proved to be satisfactory. The trend indicated in liver diseases, was low values in the chronic hepatitis group and high values in the liver cirrhosis group.
