The concentrations of serum α
1-acid glycoprotein (α
1-AGP), sialic acid and mucoprotein were estimated in 145 cattle with neoplastic and inflammatry diseases, and 10 normal cattle. The mean values of serum α
1-AGP were 330.5±104.5μg/m
l in normal cattle, 897.8±500.8μg/m
l in calf type leukemia, 848.3±826.5μg/m
l in thymic type leukemia, 1353.2±679.6μg/m
l in adult type leukemia, 480.0±353.6gg/m
l in skin type leukemia, 4050.0μg/m
l in myelocytic leukemia, 702.8±339.4μg/m
l in solid tumors, 1065.6±707.4μg/m
l in BVD· MD, 1411.8±862.5μg/m
l in traumatic pericarditis, 1987.3±1387.1μg/m
l in chronic endocarditis, 1471.7±939.5μg/m
l in necrotic mastitis and 1107.5±56.4gg/m
l in granulocytopathy syndrome.
Serum α
1-AGP concentration showed a positive correlation with serum sialic acid and mucoprotein concentration. Serum α
1-AGP of necrotic mastitis showed a negative correlation with lymphocyte count, and a positive correlation with serum γ-globulin. As a nonspecific marker, measurement of serum α
1-AGP was considered to be useful in the diagnosis of bovine leukosis, solid tumors and inflammatory diseases.
