Two hundred and ten periodontal pockets of 64 adult dogs with periodontitis were locally treated with minocycline hydrochloride (Periocare
TM) and observed for a period of 4 weeks. After scaling, root planing and curettage, 142 pockets were administrated the drug once a week for 4 weeks, and 68 pockets received the ointment base as controls. Debris index, pocket depth, bleeding on probing and pus discharge were significantly improved in the treated group at 4 weeks of treating as compared to the control.
