A 15-month-old Japanese Black beef steer reared at a farm in Miyazaki Prefecture had a poor prognosis due to chronic diarrhea and emaciation. The jejunum, ileum, cecum, and colon were thickened, and there was a hemorrhage in the cecum. Histologically, granulomatous inflammation was observed in the lamina propria and submucosa in the jejunum, ileum, cecum and colon, and the lymphatic sinuses and perinodal lymphoid tissue in the mesenteric lymph nodes, with a hemorrhage in the cecum. Mycobacterium was isolated from ileal and colonic contents, which was identified as M. avium subsp. hominissuis by genetic analysis. The present case was diagnosed as a non-tuberculosis mycobacterial disease caused by M. avium subsp. hominissuis. Non-tuberculosis mycobacteria with hemorrhaging are a rarely reported in animals, and it is necessary to collect cases and conduct more searches in the future.
