A survey on Salmonella occurrence was conducted on 373 samples of home-pr6duced fish meal, 40 of imported meal, and 11 of mixture of home-produced and imported meal. As a result, 30 strains of 9 species, of bacteria were isolated from 25 Salmonellapositive specimens. There was a tendency that the type of Salmonella isolated varied with the factory and the time examined. Salmonella-positive samples were detected from among, those which had shown high counts viable bacteria and contaminationindicating organisms.
Salmonella organisms were proved to survive in some of 17 Salmonella-positive samples for more than two years.
