Among 3, 887 bull calves necropsied in Miyazaki University, hypospadias were observed in 18 (0.46%) bull calves, including 15 with perineal, two with periscrotal and one with glandular hypospadias. Sixteen of 18 calves had associated defects including anorectal anomalies in nine, cardiovascular anomalies in eight and cryptorchidism in seven calves.

Three Holstein cows that were clinically suspected of having amyloidosis, pleurisy and cardiac disease, respectively, were diagnosed with bovine leukosis as a result of pathological autopsy. The cows did not manifest the typical symptoms of bovine leukemia, including external lymphadenopathy and lymphocytosis with atypical lymphocytes in peripheral blood. Itwas thought that bovine leukosis should be added as a differential diagnosis at the time of diagnosis difficulties, although obvious abnormalities were not recognized by physical and hematologic examination.

A 13-year-old, castrated dog of mixed breed was referred for a primary complaint of a massin the medial side of the left upper lid. Computed tomography images revealed bone lysis and a space occupying lesion (1.6×1.9cm) associated with osteogenesis arising from the left orbit. Histologically, a chondrosarcoma was diagnosed. The dog was treated with alternating doses of doxorubicin and carboplatin every three weeks in conjunction with oral piroxicam. The mass gradually decreased at one week until it clinically disappeared. After the third dose of doxorubicin, the treatment was stopped at the owner's request. No signs of recurrence or metastases have been found after more than two years.

Of 18 young dogs, 40 permanent canine teeth received crown reductions with a partial pulpectomy to prevent soft tissue trauma through malocclusion or disarmoured. The success of all 40 canine teeth was confirmed by dentine bridge formation on dental radiographs three months or more after treatment. A caries-like lesion was developed on the surface of a reduced crown in one young dog with malocclusion six months after the procedure, but the dentinbridge was recognized on the radiograph. Properly completing the technique for partial pulpectomy with an immature or young intact pulp without contamination is the key to success.

In a 16-year-old female spayed Shetland Sheepdog with a principal complaint of acute lameness and anorexia, a multifocal splenic mass and multiple lytic bone lesions were found through abdominal ultrasonography and radiography, respectively. Serum and urine electrophoresis failed to reveal a monoclonal spike. Because of the danger of rupture, a splenectomy and liver mass resectional biopsy were performed. A pathological examination produced a diagnosis of plasma cell neoplasm and hepatocellular carcinoma. An additional examination of bone mallow aspiration and osteolytic lesion biopsy showed nonsecretory multiple myeloma. A combination of chemotherapy and bisphosphonate resulted in clinical improvements, but the dog died on the 162th day.

One hundred and fifty domestic pigeons (Columba livia) showed green diarrhea and emaciation, irrespective of age, and 25 died at a pigeon breeding facility in Saitama Prefecture, Japan in May 2006. Two dead adult males were examined. Essentially similar pathological findings were obtained from both birds. Macroscopically, multifocal yellowish white foci were detected in the enlarged livers. An abscess was also observed in the bursa of the Fabricius. Histologically, multifocal necrotic foci with intranuclear inclusion bodies were observed in the livers, brains, tracheas, bronchi and pancreas. Immunohistochemically, anSalmonella04 group antigen corresponding with the bacilli was observed in the bursa of Fabricius and livers. Ultrastructurally, herpesvirus particles were detected in the hepatocytes. The viruses isolated from the livers, brains and tracheas/lungs were positive for Herpesvirus by PCR targeting the fragment of the DNA polymerase gene.Salmonella enterica serovarTyphimurium var. Copenhagen with the definitive phage type (DT) 99 was also isolated from the livers. The results indicated that Columbid herpesvirus 1 and S. Typhimurium had induced the fatal disease. This is the first report of a fatal systemic infection associated with Columbid herpesvirus 1 and S. Typhimurium in domestic pigeons.
