Subcutaneous hematoma occurred in 49 Japanese Black cattle mainly during fattening. In it, eosinophilic leukocytes contained granules larger than normal in 51.9% of the cattle. In these cattle hematoma was relatively large, the mucous membrane pale, and the nutritional status poor. Most of them were slaughtered with a poor prognosis. There were a significant decrease in erythrocyte count, hemoglobin concentration, PCV, serum cholesterol and phospholipid level, and the collagen aggregation function of platelets, a significant decrease in the α fraction and a significant increase in the pre-β fraction of serum lipoprotein electrophoresis in these cattle, as compared with those in the other cattle. Observation on the granule size of eosinophilic leukocytes was beneficial when prognosis was made on hematoma.

Adult flukes of Japanese Fasciola sp. were washed 4 times with sterile, phosphate-buffered saline (PBS), pH 7.4, and then frozen at -20°C until use. After thawing, one adult fluke was placed in 10% of its weight (10% w/v) of PBS and homogenized. After incubation in a water bath at 37°C for 4 hours, the homogenate was centrifuged at 2, 500 rpm for 10 minutes. The supernatant was used as precipitating antigen for the double immunodiffusion test to make a diagnosis of fascioliasis.
Small discs (5×5 mm) of filter paper impregnated with blood from rabbits and goats infected experimentally with F. hepatica and Japanese Fasciola sp. were allowed to react with the antigen on an agar-gel plate. At least 2 precipitation lines were observed on the plate. When small discs of filter paper impregnated with blood from uninfected rabbits and goats formed no precipitation lines.

A field experiment was conducted with the organic phosphorus scabicide, Naled, in swine. Naled was used at three dilutions: 1: 500 (group A), 1: 1, 000 (group B), and 1: 2, 000 (group C). Each pig was sprayed with 200ml of the dilution twice at a week's interval. Four weeks after spraying mites were not detected in group A or C, though they were detected in one of the 11 pigs of group B and in four of the 5 pigs of the control group.
Cutaneous changes disappeared in eleven of the 12 pigs of group A, seven of group B and in five of the 11 pigs of groups C.

The mean value and normal range of serum creatine kinase (S-CK) activity were 27.3 IU/L and 8-72 IU/L, respectively, in 81 house dogs of various breeds, 26.1 IU/L and 13.0-41.0 IU/L in 62 beagles. The S-CK activity of the puppy showed a tendency to be higher than that of the adult. Three isoenzymes (CK-MM, CK-MB, and CK-BB) were recognized in serum. Their mean percentages and normal ranges were as follows: 46.3% and 9.6-83.0% for CK-MM, 8.2% and 3.5-16.7% for CK-MB, and 38.5% and 3.8-73.3% for CK-BB in the house dogs and 45.3% and 20.0-70.3% for CK-MM, 10.1% and 4.6-14.7% for CK-MB and 30.5% and 14.7-46.4% for CK-BB in the beagles. One or two sub-bands that differed from the three isoenzymes in electrophoretic mobility were found near CK-MM in 61 of 143 dogs.
All the tissues had CK activity. Skeletal muscle abounded with CK-MM. Cardiac muscle had CK-MM and always had few CK-MB. Smooth muscle had all of the three isoenzymes. Brain abounded with CK-BB. Other tissues had low activity, and specific isoenzyme pattern.
The half life period was 122.0 minutes (SD=23.9) for CK-MM, 125.7 minutes (SD=22.7) for CK-MB, and 49.7 minutes (SD=11.0) for CK-BB in circulating blood.

In some old dogs infected severely with Dirofilaria immitis, no microfilariae were detected in the peripheral blood, but many eggs containing a degenerative embryo were found in blood collected from the lungs by puncture. The intact female reproductive system was dissected to observe the development of microfilariae from oogonia. Eggs containing atrophic embryo-cells were first discriminated from normal ones in the upper part of the uterus in all mature female worms. By that time normal eggs had developed into the 20-cell stage. The rate of degenerative eggs was much lower in worms obtained from relarively young dogs than in some of those from relatively old dogs.

Nematodes were collected from the epicardium of the ventricles and from the pericardium in 8 cattle slaughtered at an abattoir for three winter months. They were all identified morphologically as the immature worms (2 males and 8 females) of Setaria digitata (von Linstow, 1906). It was suggested that the bovine heart might be one of the sites of heterotopic parasitism of S. digitata.

A total of 88, 853 pigs were sacrificed at a slaughterhous a over a year. Of them, 2, 785 pigs were found to contain blood unfit for human consumption. Laboratory studies suggested that such blood might contain causative bacteria of some infectious deseases and food-borne illnesses, antibiotics and chemotherapeutics. In the unfit blood total bacterial count was 3.8×103/ml (coliform bacteria, 3.3/ml; pathogenic Staphylococci, 2.4/ml; thermoduric bacteria, 1.2/ml; on the average). Clostridium perfringens or salmonellae were not demonstrated. The presence of bacteria at the site of blood collection of the body and on the knife used was presumed to be the cause of blood contamination.

Gizzard erosion occurred in many flocks of laying hens, 150-500 days of age. It was caused by feeding a diet containing high levels (11.0-17.2%) of fish meal produced from sardines by heating at 120-130°C. Main clinical signs and gizzard lesion in the affected birds were almost the same as those reportedto have been in duced in young chicks and chickens by feeding fish meal. A marked decrease in egg production in hens seemed to be attributable to a reduced feed intake.

An 8-month-old setter bitch was examined because of the development of two intra-abdominal masses showing no clinical signs. These masses were first noticed when she was 40 days old. Palpation, X-ray, and ultrasonic examinations revealed two firm and freely movable masses filled with fluid, being tennis ball and soft ball in size, in the middle part of the adbominal cavity. A clinical diagnosis of abdominal cyst was made and confirmed by laparotomy. Two cysts were found covered with the gastrosplenic omentum. A part of the serosal coat of the smaller cyst was connected with the greater curvature of the stomach. This cyst had branches from the left gastroepiploic artery and vein. The larger cyst had branches from the splenic artery and vein. The mucosal coat of the two cysts was quite similar to that of the stomach. The clinical and pathological features in this case we essentially the same as those reported in the human case of duplication of the alimentary tract.
