Three dogs affected with mediastinal emphysema mostly manifested the following clinical signs: anorexia, depression, vomiting, dyspnea, labored breathing, cyanosis, groaning, and subcutaneous emphysema. Low arterial oxygen partial pressure (PO2) was common to the dogs. The most valuable diagnostic aid was the chest radiograph which showed clearly the mediastinal structure not normally seenon the lateral view.
Two dogs died one day after admission to the clinic. Necropsy failed to demonstrate any air-leaking site of the esophagus, trachea, or bronchi. The other dog had several areas of small subpleural pulmonary emphysema (bleb), which seemed to have developed in to the mediastial emphysema. It recovered uneventfully by thoracic mediastinotomy to induce pneumoth orax, which was treated in a conventional manner.

Cattle positive for antibody against ether-sensitive envelope glycoprotein antigen retained the antibody, the titer of which remained unchanged during the observation period. Antibody against ether-resistant core protein antigen was variable in cattle. The former antibody was considered to be transmissible from dam to young.
Cattle infected with leukemia virus were always positive for isolation of virus from peripheral lymphocytes and for production of C-type particles from cultured lymphocytes.
Vertical infection was hardly induced. Virus isolation was indispensable to verify the infection of calves. Cattle became positive for antibody, as well as for virus isolation, when they were housed in the same barn as the infected ones for 14-23 months.

Damage caused by crows was examined on the Erimo Beef Cattle Farm, Hokkaido, in the past ten years. The heat-mount detector was broken by pecking in 44% of the cows equipped with it. When the crow pecked the hoof and tongue of afetus at the time of parturition, the fetus suffered from rctarded growth. Of 77 fbtuse specked, nine succumbed eventually.
When 13 cows showed prolapse of the vagina, crows pecked the vaginal wall and 10 cows were finally condemned on account of the vaginal injury.
