Over a 15-month period beginning in June, 1974, ten dogs fed onions were submitted to the authors' clinic. They manifested a marked paleness of the visible mucous membrane and the voidance of reddish brown urine. The urine was positive for occult blood test and contained green granular sediments. The erythrocyte count and hematocrit value decreaced strikingly. A diagnosis of acute hemolytic anemia was made. Treatment was done with glucose, hepatic tonic, vitamins B12 and C, and antibiotics. Blood transfusion was performed in two severe cases. As a result, one dog died on the second day of illness, two were ameliorated and stopped visiting the clinic, and seven healed after treatment for 3-8 days.

Six SPF swine were nursed for the first three days of life and injected intranasally with a suspension of 24-hour culture of Bordetella bronchiseptica on blood agar at 6 and 12 days of age. Two of them (group A) were injected intramusculrly with 1.3g per capita of sulfamonomethoxine (SMM) five times at intervals of 6-8 days beginning at one day before experimental infection. Another two swine (group B) were treated in the same manner as group A, except that treatment was started 3 days after infection. The other two served as controls. All the swine were subjected to autopsy at 81 days of age.
At autopsy bacterial recovery was negative from the trachea in group A and from the lung in all the animals, except one control. Atrophy of the concha nasalis was found in all the treated animals, except one, and the controls. Agglutination antibody, as examined at 81 days of age, was negative in all the treated animals, except one of group B.
Gain in body weight up to 80 days of age was 30.98, 26.93, and 24.02kg, on the average, in groups A and B and the control group, respectively.

In March, 1975, 28 fattening cattle were affected with diarrhea, salivation, nasal discharge, lacrimation, exophthalmos, mydriasis, reduced visual power, hyperesthesia, rotating movement, and blindness. Autopsy revealed an increase in cerebrospinal fluid, filling of blood vessels of the ocular fundus, and hepatomegaly. Histologically, hemorrhagic foci were scattered in the brain parenchyma and around blood vessels, nerve cells degenerated, neuronophages increased, the optic nerve was edematous, and vascular degeneration of the arachnoid was marked. In addition, the lung was congested and edematous, the epithelia of renal uriniferous tubules were detached after degeneration, and calcium was deposited in Bowman's capsules.
Biochemical tests were performed on 17 cattle and presented an extremely low level (13.2±12.4IU/dl) of vitamin A. The lower this level, the severer became the symptoms manifested.

Four horses infected with equine infectious anemia maintained a high level of IgG during the observation period. In them the level of IgG (T) tended to decrease a little during this period.
Complement-fixation and precipitation antibodies became positive after the initial febrile attack. The former reached the highest titer immediately after the appearance and disappeared before long. The latter remained positive for a long time, at the end of which it reached the highest titer.
