A serological survey on hemagglutination antibody against Toxoplasma was carried out in 213 domestic cats from six prefectures in the Tohoku district in 1974. The rate of positive reaction was 69%, on the average, in a range of 53%(Aomori Prefecture) to 967%(Iwate). It was considerably higher than that reported in any other district in Japan.
No significant relationship was observed between the rate of positive reaction and the breed or sex of the cats examined. The rate was 49 and 85% in 1-and 5-years-old cats respectively. It was very high in cats which always ran a round a piggery or a slaughterhouse.

    1. Eighteen female calves of the Holstein breed 90-151 days of age were infected with 160 metacercariae of Fasciola hepatica. Fourteen of them were subjected to the bromsulphalein (BSP) test. There were no definite relation ships among the K and half-time values calculated from the BSP clearance curve and the autopsy and histological findings of the liver or the number of worms contained in this organ.
    2. The calves were subjected to hematological examination before the beginning and after the end of the experiment. A significant increase was seen in leukocyte count, serum protein level, gamma-globulin, SGOT, and ratio of eosinophils to neutrophils and a significant decrease in albumin, A/G ratio, and lymphocyte ratio at the end of the experiment.

Electrophoretic determination of the serum protein distribution on cellulose acetate membrane was performed with blood samples obtained from cattle and pigs in the municipal slaughterhouse in Hiroshima.(1) In normal swine serum, total protein was 7.4±0.95g/dl, A/G ratio 0.80±0.077, albumin 45±2.8%, α2-globulin 19±1.0%, β-globulin 18±3.3%, and 7-globulin 18±1.7%.(2) In normal serum from Holstein and Japanese Black cattle, total protein was 7.23±1.04g/dl, A/G ratio 0.86±0.33, albumin 46±2.3%, α2-globulin 13.8±2.3%, β-globulin 16.6±5.2%, and γ-globulin 23.4±6.54%.(3) In cattle and pigs with pericarditis, the γ-globulin level was markedly high. Animals with jaundice showed a low A/G ratio and a high γ-globulin level.(4) A substantial increase in the albumin fraction was scen in cows with hepatic abscess and a decrease in protein quotients and albumin fraction in cows with malnutrition.

Histopathological examination was carried out on 22 chickens inoculated intra-ocularly with the American type Newcastle disease (ND) virus and 30 chickens inoculated with intracerebrally or intra-airsaccularly lentogenic ND virus. In the former birds changes of pneumoencephalitis appeared 7 days after inoculation. Other changes appeared in the bursa of Fabricius (BF), thymus, spleen, bonemarrow, and cecal tonsils 1 day after inoculation. In the latter birds, changes in BF and spleen were milder than in the former. Lymphatic changes were the vanishment of lymphocytes and activation of reticular cells in both groups of chickens.
