A total of 27 dogs 1.5-12 months old suffered from diarrhea seemingly induced by infestation with flagellate protozoa of the genus Giardia. Experimental infestation was successful with fecal samples containing these protozoa. Diarrhea started 2-3 days after inoculation. In the feces vegetative forms and cysts appeared 5-7 and 10-12 days, respectively, after inoculation. Metronidasol was destructive to those protozoa without side effects.

Echocardiography was performed on 10 dogs 7 to 13 years old weighing 4 to 14 kg, in which the diagnosis of mitral insufficiency had been made clinically. When the transducer was placed on the left fourth intercostal sternal border, mitral valve echocardiograms were readily recorded, showing an M-type wave which was the same as that in man. They indicated an increase in the amplitude of wave, the disappearance of A wave, the appearance of flutt er' B-B' Step, or mid-diastolic wave, and an inverted wave in the dorsal leaflet valve echogram. These were characteristic of the echocardiogram of the ventral leaflet of the mitral valve affected with insufficiency. An echocardiogram coud give important information on the anatomical change of the mitral valve and the movement of the left ventricle at the diastole. It might be available for the examination of cardiac function in the same manner as an electrocardiogram and an electrophonogram.

A total of 2, 180 accidents of dog bite occurred in Tokyo for 366 days beginning with April 1, 1975. All of them, except 16, were examined in relation to climatic conditions.
Dog bite tended to decrease in occurrence on rainy days. There was no correlation between the diurnal length of sunshine or humidity and the occurrence of dog bite accident. There were correlations between the length of daytime and the accident (r=0.8638), and between atmospheric temperature and the accident (r=0.6514).

In Nara Prefecture acute fatal fascioliasis has been prevalent among cattle since 1968 when the use of agricultural chemicals began to be restricted to a large extent. Seven infected animals were examined. They excreted tar-like bloody feces, because Fasciolalarvae perforated the hepatic parenchyma to cause hemorrhage and blood and bile were discharged into the duodenum. Inflammatory thickening accompanied with infiltration of numerous acidophils was observed in the duodenal wall. Ectopic Fasciola infection was seen in the lung.
Hepatic abscesses were found in all the animals. From them were isolated epidermic staphylococci, streptococci, and anaerobic corynebacteria at a high rate. Epizootiological examination revealed that a main source of infection in dairy cows was rice straw.

A cow affected with hydrops allantois was administered intramuscularly with 25mg of prostaglandin F. Twin pregnancy was revealed 7.5 hours after administration (at 227 days of pregnancy). The fetal membranes were retained for 5 days after delivery. Over 100l of pink or straw-colored allantoic or amnionic cfluid was collected during the delivery. The cow regained appetite on the following day of delivery and showed a milkyield of 16kg one month later. Transient polycythemia due to severe dehydration, leukopenia, and the high levels of total serum protein, blood glucose and blood urea nitrogen returned to normal 5 days after delivery. SGOT remained at a high level even before and after administration. The level of reproductive steroids measured by radioimmunoassay was essentially the same as that in normal parturition.
Autopsy of the twin fetuses revealed normal visceral organs, except the kidneys which seemed to be cystic or atrophic. The fetal membranes were edematous.
