A cloth enzyme immunoassay (CEIA) kit reacting to 5 serovars including S. Enteritidis and not to non-
Salmonella organisms, was tested for the detection of
Salmonella from 68 samples from 17 kinds of foods, which had been contaminated experimentally by adding with various doses of Salmonella and incubated. Positive results were obtained with samples contaminated with more than 10
6 organisms/m
l, and some negative samples by the conventional plate culture method because of predominance of non-
Salmonella organisms were also positive by CEIA. The calf fecal samples, from which
Salmonella were isolated, were positive by CEIA.
