In vivo study on the conjugation of 4-[
14C]cortisol in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of normal and CCl
4-treated dogs was carried out. Ten min after the injection of 4-[
14C]cortisol, about 3 ml of CSF was withdrawn and conjugation of 4-[
14C]cortisol was assayed. Both sulphate and glucuronide conjugations of cortisol in the CSF of the dog treated with CCl
4 in vivo were found to be decreased as compared with those in the normal dog, indicating that conjugation of cortisol in the CSF is markedly influenced by liver dysfunction.
