If yakriton is subcutaneously injected in the amount of 5 R. A. U. (Rabbit Ammonia-Units) per kilogram of body weight into
b- and
f-classed rabbits, then the blood picture will be changed as described below:
1. Total white cell count. Blood will show a leucocytosis, mo-derate in
b-classed animals, and remarkable in
f -classed animals, the maximum leucocytosis falling in the 4th or the 5th hour after the injection. During the whole course of one week following the injection, the
b-classed will show a slight increase of leucocytes in number. In the case of the
f-classed, a slight leucocytosis will continue up to the 2nd or the 3rd day only, then leucocytes will show a slight de-crease in number until the end of the week.
2. Lymphatic cells. They will show a remarkable lymphopenia, only relatively in the
b-classed, and absolutely, as well as relatively, in the
f-classed, the maximum falling in the 5th hour after the injection. During the whole course of one week following the injection, the
b-classed will show no change. The
f-classed will show a slight decrease of lymphocytes in number up to the 4th day; then a slight increase until the end.
3. Myeloid cells. They will show a remarkable increase in num-her, absolutely as well as relatively, after the injection, reaching the maximum in the 5th hour. The restoration of the number (of increase) to normal will not always occur on the next day in the
b-classed, or on the 3rd or the 4th day in the
f-classed. Later they will show a slight decrease in the
f-classed.
4. Nuclear shift. A remarkable shift of a regenerative nature will occur gradually after the injection. The grade of this shift will roughly correspond to the grade of an increase of the total white cell count; and the shift will become in the
b-classed, two or three times the normal, and in the
f-classed three or four times. During the whole course of one week following the injection, a very slight shift will continue until the end in the
f-classed, and only up to the 2nd or the 3rd day in the
b-classed. This shift is due to an increase of cells with rod-shaped nucleus, and of those cf Type II, and to a decrease of those of Types III, IV and V.
