As the cause of chronic atrophic gastritis, many factors have been suggested. However, experimental studies were few in this field and definite conclusion is not determined.
On the other hand, it is well known that chronic gastritis is often observed in the residual stomach after gastrectomy. It is generally believed that the role of the regurgitation of duodenal content and the loss of gastrin stimuli are most important to cause postoperative gastritis.
